  • Welcome to the Fediverse

So, the Fediverse. Thanks to the shenanigans at Twitter (which I didn’t use anyway) I heard about Mastodon and the Fediverse. It sounds amazing – a federated social network technology that can’t be owned by a single company and doesn’t carry ads. It’s been around a few years but it’s in the spotlight at the moment, for obvious reasons.

In its basic form it’s similar to Twitter, but the underlying communication protocol can be built into all kinds of applications. So there are a number of instances providing services that replicate many of the major social media sites.

I’ve signed up to Pixelfed, which is a photo-sharing site similar to Instagram (which I have an account on but never log on to) to have a play around and see what’s what.

There’s a great introductory website called Fedi-Tips that explains it better than I have.

My profile: Pixelfed. There’s not much there yet.

    Photo Summer School

I’m on a 6-day photography course, run by David Clapp, as part of the West Dean College Summer School. Should be fun! I’ll post some of the results as soon as there are any!

UPDATE! I’ve added some photos! It was a fantastic week. Most of the photos in this first batch are from Brighton. I’ve got lots more that I might post – keep checking back!

Nine Inch Nails – Eden Sessions

I’ve been waiting years to see Nine Inch Nails again. I bought a ticket as soon as they were announced. They didn’t disappoint. I only took 1 photo (I didn’t want to lose my phone…). This is not really a review, just ramblings.

  • Goodbye Spotify, Hello TIDAL

I’ve decided to cancel my Spotify Premium and make the move to TIDAL. Nothing to do with the Neil Young situation – I’m a big fan of his music, but while he has every right to not want to be associated with Joe Rogan, why does he have to promote a company known for shady and unfair practices? – but because I don’t like the idea of my subscription going to the likes of Drake and Taylor Swift. It’s nothing personal, it’s just that I don’t listen to them, so why should I pay them? Plus, I play music through my HiFi, so why not stream HiFi quality?

    52Frames – 52 Picks!

I recently discovered and signed up for a website called 52Frames. It publishes a weekly photography challenge, not as a competition, but as a, well, challenge. So far I’ve entered 2 challenges, and my second one was picked for their 52 Picks curated album! I know you’re supposed to make art for yourself, but it’s nice when other people like it too! You can see the album here.
